The countdown has begun. In about 48 hours, we will be releasing the digital Gambit Expansion for Star Realms. We will be posting the PC and Mac versions of the digital Gambit Expansion for Star Realms on our Download Page at 12:01 am EST, this Thursday, March 5th. The expansion is also planned for release on iOS and Google Play on Thursday, pending approval by the Apple and Google Play stores.
Some of you might be wondering, what exactly comes in the digital Gambit Expansion? The new digital Gambit Expansion includes all the Gambit and promotional cards from our Kickstarter physical card set:
- Nine new Gambit cards that give players special abilities
- Fifteen new ship and base cards added to the trade deck
- Two new campaign chapters with a total of 13 new campaign missions
- Top 1,000 Rankings, lifetime, monthly and weekly leaderboards
You have to have it, right? How much does it cost? The price is $3.99, and it requires purchase of the base game ($4.99). Like the base game, once you purchase the digital Gambit Expansion once, you can play it across all platforms (PC, Mac, iOS, Android).
When the user purchases the Gambit Expansion, they receive the following for all four platforms:
Nine new Gambit cards that give players special abilities:
- Bold Raid
- Energy Shield
- Frontier Fleet
- Political Maneuver
- Rise to Power
- Salvage Operation
- Smuggling Run
- Surprise Assault
- Unlikely Alliance
Fifteen new ship and base cards added to the trade deck:
New ships:
- 3 Merc Cruiser
- 2 Battle Screecher
- 1 Megahauler
- 1 The Ark
- 2 Battle Barge
New bases:
- 1 Breeding Site
- 2 Starmarket
- 2 Fortress Oblivion
- 1 Starbase Omega
New Campaign Chapters:
- Two new campaign chapters with a total of 13 new campaign missions
- Players unlock Gambits as they complete missions
- Players can then choose which Gambits to use when attempting future missions.
- Challenge yourself by attempting missions with no Gambits or make it easier by using additional Gambits.
- Unlock new avatars when you complete the new campaign chapters.
All users who download the update, even if they do not purchase the expansion, will receive the following new features:
- Three leaderboards, so players can track their weekly, monthly, and lifetime play
- A new update area on the main menu, so players can receive timely updates about the game
- Faster card animation, as an option for advanced users
- More hints and tips, to help new players avoid common play mistakes
I got the chance to personally test out the Gambit Expansion, and it is very easy to use. Basically, you can choose whether or not you want to play with the new Gambit Expansion. If you have the Gambit Expansion selected, when you challenge a player or play “New Game” online, all of the Gambit Expansion cards mentioned above will be included in the game. Each player gets two randomly selected Gambit cards at the beginning of the game that they can use at any time. The new ship and base cards are mixed in with the trade deck. And the battle begins… my favorite so far is the Battle Screecher. Would love to hear your feedback and/or questions in the comments.
Would you like to know more? Good, because we have a livestream Twitch scheduled with our game designers, Rob Dougherty and Darwin Kastle, this Wednesday at 7 pm EST. Join us live on the Star Realms Twitch Channel. Rob and Darwin will also be featured on the Megahaulin Podcast this week. Hello WWG, it is a great news to see those addons to the digital game, but why have you planned to add a second starbase omega in the game despite the fact that you havnet provide two wirh the kickstarter promo set. Is it a new count for this card in the game ? Won’t it ne unfair for other factions which have less card in the cardpool ? Thanks !
Hi Shivan, here and there, the digital game and the paper game won’t be 100% the same, and this is probably one of those slight differences. We’ve been testing this on the digital app, and it works for us.
You know, when you guys said expansion I was really looking forward to the EXPANSION, and not the promotional cards included with the kick-starter set. This is kind of a disappointment, the heroes and events really make the game much more enjoyable.
Hi Josh, we are adding the Crisis Expansion next.
Are you going to release the physical cards of the new ships and bases from this expansion for us to buy? Previously they were only promos I believe, but I really want the opportunity to realistically obtain them. Ebay is not really an option at those ridiculous prices.
Hi Mojonir, we will rerelease the Gambit expansion soon as well. We’re having some issues getting everything printed fast enough to keep up with demand 🙂 you guys love us too much!
Hi,
Do you plan a “big box”-type release containing all the cards released so far?
Thx.
No plans so far, but we’ll consider it in the future.
Hello, so this page says you get 16 extra ships and bases, but your list only shows 15. And you list 9 gambits. However on the App when you click Gambit Expansion it says you only get 8 new ships and bases and 8 Gambits. So what are you getting!? I’d like to know before I purchase! Thanks!
Oops, there was an error in the original blogpost, it incorrectly stated 16 extra ships and bases, it has been updated with the correct count. Thank you for your feedback.
But what about the iPhone App? It still says on the Gambit Expansion page that you only get 8 ships AND bases and only 8 Gambit cards!?
Details said when you challenge a player or play online the gambits will be added and all other cards added to the deck to play.
Well, what if you are playing single player campaign offline? Will gambit stuff still mix?
If I buy the digital expansion can I still play opponents with the original game only? Or will I only be able to play others with the expansion?
will my current games in progress continue?
Superlative game, thank you
If you buy the expansion you can choose whether or not to play with the expansion. This means that you can still play with people that have not purchased the expansion. Thanks for the compliment on the game.
Bought the expansion for IOS and I can use the Gambits, but the new ships and bases never appear. What’s going on? The Gambit’s are fine, but I really wanted the extra variety of the new ships and bases.
Hi Glenn, an update to the latest available version should fix this for you!
Hey there, I purchased the Gambits expansion but the 16 new base and ship cards don’t appear in the Vs. AI version of the game. Are they only available for online and campaign play??
Hi Pat, this was a bug that should be fixed when you update your app!
My comment was deleted. I asked a fair question before buying!?
Your info says play against a player or online and the gamut set mixes.
I need to know as a solo offline player will the gambit set still Mix and work??
Please reply … Its a fair retail question.
Sorry James, it was not deleted, it just wasn’t approved yet- it got buried under a bunch of spam messages. You can still play with Gambits offline, in the VS AI games, and also in the campaign.
The iPhone App still says on the Gambit Expansion page (click: Play Online – New Game – Expansions, then under MORE CARDS) that you only get 8 ships AND bases, and only 8 Gambit cards!? Are their more In App Purchases to get the rest!? I certainly hope not!
P.S This page still says (above Ships and Bases) that you get 16 new Ships and Bases.
There is only one in-app purchase, and it unlocks all the Gambit content. We are not here to squeeze you all out of money, people 🙂
Also, I fixed the page to say fifteen. Sorry about that!
I understand, but why doesn’t the App say the correct number of cards you get instead of it saying 8 ships and bases, and 8 Gambit cards!? It just seems very misleading, and makes me wary to purchase! And you never say THE APP will be corrected…..
I’m not trying to be a jerk, but fixing the page on the app would seem like something to do sooner than later, especially if you are getting MORE CARDS (24 cards as opposed to 16 advertised!!).
It takes a little longer to change things in the app than it does on the website, I’m afraid. That’s really the main explanation.
For those who are struggling with this (because I certainly was), you must install the NEWER version of the Gambit Expansion onto your device or computer. This will open up the new options to purchase the gambit expansion OR enter your registration code if you’ve already purchased. This was NOT made clear and I had spent a great deal of time blundering around the OLD version trying to activate the Gambits.
Hope this helps.
You are correct – for the Gambits content to show up, you have to have your app updated to a version with Gambits. You can then unlock the content with a purchase.
You should offer the digital expansions for free to those who have purchased the digital cards. I ordered the Gambit set, and it should be here this week. I also already purchase all four packs from the Crisis set, as well as two starters. You should include cards in the packs with a code for it to unlock digitally. As a side note, I got your full app through the HumbleBunde.
Sorry, I meant to type “those who have purchased physical cards.”
